Many people associate coworking and flexible workspaces with freelancers and sole traders but actually these spaces are perfect for small businesses and even large corporate clients (already around 40% of members of flexible workspaces are from large corporates and that’s expected to rise to 60% by 2022). One of the big headaches for small businesses in particular is managing their office space. Businesses often sign up to a fixed-term lease which may become an issue if they grow (or shrink). They can find themselves wasting valuable time dealing with rates bills, utilities, internet providers, cleaners, you name it. They would much rather be doing what they do best – running their business.

One of the advantages of a flexible workspace is that businesses can sign up for a month at a time and move to a bigger or smaller office on very short notice. The business doesn’t pay for space it doesn’t need (think of that 12 seat boardroom that gets used twice a week for one-to-one meetings). Instead, it makes use of the shared resources including meeting rooms, a comfortable lounge and other informal break out areas.

In London’s flexible workspaces, small businesses have recognised the simplicity of a single monthly bill that covers all of their office costs while providing their team with the kind of beautifully designed surroundings most small business owners can only dream of providing. This kind of offering is thinner on the ground outside the big urban centres in the UK, but we believe this is starting to change. As OUTWORK, we hope to be part of that change: bringing bright and productive office space close to home.
